As a coach, I work with many individuals, business leaders, and teams on the accomplishment of their goals and dreams. There is no greater feeling then that of helping someone to realize an important goal or dream. Unfortunately, many people never experience a “complete” life. Understanding how to achieve greater results, is important for success.
Here’s an excerpt from my book, The GOAL Formula:
A Dream is something you wish for. A Goal is something you strive for. An Accomplishment is something you complete.
Why do most people feel incomplete? Most people feel that way because they have few accomplishments in their lives.
Everyone wants to take control of their lives and accomplish their goals. People focus on experiencing greater health, enhancing relationships, improving finances, developing their spiritual journey, and enjoying themselves. Business owners want to accomplish goals too. Improving sales, creating better leadership teams, and elevating company profits top the list.
In America alone, the desire to accomplish life-changing goals is mind-blowing. Each year, millions of dollars are spent by individuals and organizations on personal and professional development. Here is an estimated breakdown of what Americans spend on taking control of their lives.
Marketdata Enterprises states:
In 2005, the total self-improvement market was estimated to be $9.59 billion. It is expected that the market will grow by more than 11% per year through 2010. That would put it close to $14 billion in annual spending!
Books $693 million
Audio Books $2.08 billion
Weight loss programs $3.97 billion
With this much money being spent to improve lives, why do we see so few people with better lives? Quite simply, people pay for the cost of a greater life, but rarely pay the price to experience it. Approximately 12 million Americans are involved in nearly 500,000 self-help programs.
There is nothing wrong with investing in some good resources to improve your life, but do not confuse paying for someone’s books or programs with guaranteeing your results. A greater life requires a different price. Throughout history, people achieved greatness without the assistance of self-help programs. They did it without access to all of our current resources, and they often faced extreme challenges, too.
So, how did they do it? They made the choice to take control of their life – they made the choice to Think G.R.E.A.T.
Think – Control your thoughts
G.R.E.A.T. – Control your actions
Take control and set your important goals!
